In 2008 IMAX debuted their IMAX 3D digital systems based on a pair of 2K digital projectors projecting onto a wide aspect-ratio silvered screen.

IMAX digital systems are usually deployed into conventional multiplex cinemas whereas the IMAX 70mm systems are usually fitted into specially constructed cinemas.

The announced 3D conversion was dropped during production and the film was only released into theatres in 2D.

NB: Warner originally announced that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" would be released in 3D theatres, but on they announced that it only be hitting screens in 2D for its release.
